Dr. Patricia Yoder-WisePresident of The Wise Group

Dr. Patricia (Pat) Yoder-Wise has demonstrated leadership through every facet of nursing. Although most of her career has originated out of academic medical centers, where she has served on faculty and as a dean, her focus has always been on practice. As a result, the practice program at Texas Tech expanded rapidly while she was Dean, as did the diversity of both students and faculty. This same practice/practical focus carries over to her academic teaching, which is application-based, and to many of her writings. For example, her bestselling text, Leading and Managing in Nursing, which revolutionized the way nursing leadership/management information is presented, with exercises and other assigned activities, is now in its eighth edition. Co-authored with two colleagues, The Leadership Trajectory: Developing Legacy Leaders Ship, was designated the 2021 American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year in its category. She has amassed an impressive scholarly record through her numerous articles and also first as an associate editor and subsequently, editor-in-chief of the prestigious, The Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing, where she continues to write monthly editorials. Additionally, she became editor-in-chief of Nursing Forum in 2010. She worked with one of the first professional association endeavors geared to address diversity in nursing—long before it was called that. She has served in various elected offices in the American Academy of Nursing (AAN), American Nurses Association, American Nurses Credentialing Center, Association for Leadership Science in Nursing, and the Texas Nurses Association. She holds fellow status in AAN (FAAN), American Organization for Nursing Leadership (FAONL), and nursing education (ANEF) and is certified as a nurse executive, advanced (NEA-BC). Pat teaches leadership and policy—two highly engaging topics that always precipitate conversations.
